We have classes to help you learn to use this fantastic piece of equipment.
We have all types of ways to help you – one-on-one in your own home; group classes in your workplace or retirement village, or you can join in our Adult After Hours Classes at Sh@re Community Campus – held at Brighton Grammar School.

The iPad classes are taught by our expert, Matt Styles, who has been using Apple products for 20 years. He has sold, repaired, installed and taught how to use them – and he loves them!

The Classes held at Brighton Grammar will run again Term Three and Term Four 2011.
Term 4 classes are:
October 13, 20 and 27 and November 9, 16 and 23.

LEVEL ONE: October 20 November 9
LEVEL TWO: October 27 and November 3rd. November 16 and 23
Here are some details of what you’ll learn:
LEVEL ONE: iPad Beginners:
• Learn about the Physical attributes of the iPad, including.
- Power/Sleep button; – Home button; – Volume button
- Side switch function; – Dock connector; – Headphone jack
- Touch surface
• Orientation
• Gestures
- Touch; – Swipe; – Pinch
• Locking and Unlocking
• The Home button
- When it is used; – How it is used; – What it will do in different circumstances
• Home Screens
- How they are intended to work and tie in with the user experience
• Using the keyboard
- When they keyboard is used
- Entering text characters, number characters and special characters
- Special keys (Go, Search, accents, .com)
• The concept of Apps
- What an App is; – What they can do
• Email, the web and other internet services
- What is email
- What is the world wide web
- What else can the internet be used for, ie. other services (eg. Skype, downloading things)
• Internet connectivity
- What is 3G; – What is WiFi
- Benefits and disadvantages of each
- Things to keep in mind (data, coverage, availability etc.)
• The App Store
- Why it exists; – Browsing; – Searching
At the end of the night you will:
• Understand holding an iPad and using it’s various buttons
• Be able to use your fingers to do things with the iPad’s touch surface
• Know how to type on the iPads keyboard
• Know what Apps are and how they’re intended to make an iPad do things
• Know what email is and what it means to “browse the internet”
• Understand how the iPad connects to the internet
• Be Introduced to the App Store for purchasing and downloading more Apps
LEVEL TWO: Using the iPad (Night 1):
Assumed knowledge and basic comprehension of all discussed in beginners class
• The App Store
- What it is; – Browsing; – Searching; – Downloading
• Safari
- Understanding the App’s interface
- Browsing; – Searching the web; – Bookmarking
- Understanding the App’s interface
- Composing emails; – Replying to emails
- Dealing with attachments
LEVEL TWO: Using the iPad (Night 2):
• iBooks
- Browsing; – Searching; – Downloading
• Photos
- Browsing
- Adding from sources, incl. taking photos
- Attaching to email
• YouTube
- Searching; – Watching videos
• Maps
- Searching for locations; – Obtaining directions
• Demonstration of some useful Apps (time permitting)
- eBay; – AFL Live; – ABC iView; – The Age
By the end of the second class, you will:
• Know how to search for and download news Apps to your iPad
• Comfortably be able to browse the web
• Be able to Google to search the web for useful information
• Send and receive emails
• Explore the iBooks bookstore and read on your iPad
• Know how to turn the iPad into a digital photo album
• Understand how YouTube can be used as a helpful and informative tool
• Have access to up to date maps and directory information to help find your way
