WOW News – 23 April
Hi, welcome to this week’s news from The Web on Wheels!
Columbine School shootings 10th anniversary
I try to put only happy or positive articles in this newsletter. However, this week my thoughts turn to the people who are feeling such sadness as it’s the ten year anniversary of the Columbine School shootings. I can’t imagine, nor quite frankly do I ever want to imagine, how awful it must be for people in that situation. I can’t say anything other than I feel deeply for anyone affected by it, and you’re in my prayers this week.
In this issue we’ll look at:
- the amazing music video ‘Stand By Me’
- article: ‘Staying Young: The Role of Physical Activity in Aging; and
- a light-hearted moment (We’ve all been there!!)

Just a quick word about the content of this message.
Throughout this newsletter I have included various links to websites, and included some pictures. Sometimes those links don’t work.
It’s NOT you!
Sometimes your computer, or the system you’re using (eg. Hotmail, Outlook) decide to look after your security and block your ability to go straight to an outside website or to download pictures. Sometimes it’s simply that your computer is set to get only plain text messages. So no matter what you do, you won’t get the nice looking, easy-clicking tricks, your message will be just as it says – plain text without any of the fancy stuff.
If a link doesn’t work, try looking on your screen, usually toward the top of the email message and see if there’s some sort of message saying something about the link not being allowed, eg: “to protect your privacy downloads have been prevented” or “links have been disabled” – or something similar. Most of the time, it also gives you the option to click in that message area and give your computer permission to go ahead and allow the picture to come onto your computer, or allow you to get to the website.
(Let me know if things don’t work as you expect and I’ll get it sorted for you.)
Until next week, please take good care of yourself.
Viv

This week we’ll look at a fabulous music video. I only found out about this from reading an article in our weekly TV guide – ‘The Green Guide’ in the ‘Age’ newspaper.
This video is a compilation of musicians and singers in many parts of the world, all playing or singing separately. The whole thing is put together by clever people using clever technology to produce a seamless video. It makes for great watching and listening.
The video is about 5 ½ minutes long. Hope you enjoy! You will just need to click the play button at the bottom, left of the screen. (move your mouse back to the same spot when the video’s playing if you need to pause it)
Click here, it’s the link to take you to the video.

Physical Activity
One of my favourite things to do in the world is exercise.
What was that???
I’m sure I heard a few of you groan! But I really do, and it’s mostly motivated by my love of food.
Today’s article is from Medical News Today. I think it makes for interesting viewing, for people of all ages. Now, there are ads on the site, (which is how they can make all this information available). On the video, the very first thing to play is an ad – takes about 30 seconds. But once that’s over, then the video automatically starts.
I do encourage you to try to get some exercise in your day. Even if it’s sitting in your chair and moving your arms or legs if you’re not very active. Or going out for a stroll on these lovely Autumn days that we’re having in Victoria. (you might need to rug up on the other side of the world). Or some really gentle stretches, or swimming.
Something – anything – and you’re sure to feel better for it.
Of course, check with your doctor first if you’re just starting to exercise for the first time in a long time.
Here is the article and video from Medical News Today. (the sound is a bit dodgy, but the content it still good, it’s only a couple of minutes long.)
Staying Young: The Role of Physical Activity in Aging.
As we age, keeping physically active is essential. It not only improves the appearance of the body, it also prevents the occurrence of health complications in the future. Join Dr. Roizen as he discusses the role of exercise in aging and the type of activities that can help maintain a healthy body.

Next week we’ll look at one of the great forms of exercise – dance!
Here’s a couple of sites that I’ve visited that do basic dance lessons online, quite a lot of the lessons are free. www.learning2dance.com and www.learntodance.com – Guys, are you up for a bit of fun?!
